Get Involved

Starting Strong believes that we all play a role in supporting childhood success – because when children achieve, our community thrives. Whether you want to join our network, advocate for policy change, or educate yourself on this important issue, there are many ways you can get involved and help support this community effort.

Join the Network

Join us in our work to support families and children as we build the foundation needed within our community to navigate the journey from cradle to career. If you support children and families in Portland, we can help connect your work with our strategies. We provide training and resources to support certain initiatives and welcome any member of the community to participate. Contact us to learn more.

Promote Our Work

Early childhood learning and well-being are the building blocks for our community’s future. One of the most effective ways to support our work is by sharing information about our goal with others to help build the understanding that a child’s well-being and thriving communities go hand-in-hand. There is a role for everyone to play in supporting children and families.

Be Informed

Whether you are a parent, educator, or other community partner, you can stay informed and active by visiting our website and following us on Facebook and Twitter. We regularly post new information, resources, and tips about how you can help prepare children in Portland, from birth to age 8, for academic success.

Advocate for Change

We all have a voice and the ability to advance positive change in our community. Starting Strong and its partners have developed a policy agenda as part of Portland Works for Kids. Together, we are elevating awareness of the childcare crisis (see our video) and advocating for policy changes to support providers and families. Subscribe to receive updates about opportunities and tools to advocate successfully and with confidence for policies that benefit young children and their families, while helping our community thrive.

Volunteer

Volunteers provide a positive experience for children and families alike when it comes to building a healthy community for its youngest members. We connect individuals looking to help with a wide array of opportunities – from reading with children during school or over summer break, to helping a parent or family member navigate services for a child in need.
