Starting Strong shares resources, combines efforts, and creates a community infrastructure that not only supports school readiness and reading, but also reduces barriers so that all children, regardless of race and socio-economic background, can attain their full educational potential.
We are over 30 community partners actively engaged in this work with initiatives that include:
Early childhood services that focus on healthy child development and early literacy
Summer programs that include homework sessions and school attendance messages
Parent engagement that supports school readiness and encourages out-of-school-time reading and enriching activities
Literacy programs with community volunteers in the classroom and at summer meal sites
Advocacy efforts that promote children and families as a community priority
“Schools cannot succeed alone. Engaged communities mobilized to remove barriers, expand opportunities, and assist parents in fulfilling their roles and responsibilities to serve as full partners in the success of their children are needed to assure student success.” — Campaign for Grade Level Reading
